Chief Michael Sitar was appointed as Chief of the Tilton-Northfield Fire &
EMS in February of 2014. Chief Sitar has a Master's Degree in Public and Fire Administration,
a Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy, and an Associate's Degree in Fire Science
and Protection Technologies. Chief Sitar has been designated Executive Fire Oficer
(EFO) from the National Fire Academy, Chief Fire Officer (CFO) from the Center for
Public Safety Excellence and Accreditation. He is also certified by Pro Board as
a Fire Officer IV, Fire Service Instructor II and Fire Incident Safety Officer.
Chief Sitar is a certified Emergency Manager, Emergency Medical Technician, and
Hazardous Materials Operations. Prior to serving on the Tilton-Northfield Fire
Department, Chief Sitar served on the Tewksbury, Massachusetts Fire Department for
32 years with the last 9 years as a Captain/Shift Commander. Chief Sitar also served
as Tewksbury's Emergency Management Director for 26 years.
Chief Sitar is the President of Lakes Region Mutual Fire Aid Association. He serves on
the Board of Directors for the New Hampshire Association of Fire Chiefs.
Chief Sitar was appointed to and is the Vice Chair of the Statewide Interoperable
Executive Committee. Chief Sitar is a 2018 graduate of the Leadership Lakes Region Program.
Deputy Chief Sean Valovanie has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2006 and was promoted to Deputy Chief in September 2022. Among his other duties as Deputy Chief, he is charge of Fire Prevention. Deputy Valovanie holds an AS in Fire Science, an AS in Nursing and is certified as a Registered Nurse. He is also certified as a Firefighter III, Advanced EMT, Fire Officer I & II, Fire Inspector I, Rescue Systems I, Trench Rescue, Child Passenger Safety Technician and Fire & Emergency Services Instructor I. In 2008 Deputy Valovanie was the recipient of the Fire-Mark Award. Prior to being employed with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS Deputy Valovanie served as a call member on Gilford Fire Rescue and in the United States Navy, aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt.
Administrative Manager Kathy Tobine has been employed with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2008. She holds an AS in Business Science. Prior to being employed with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS she was a CSR for Cross Insurance.
Clerk Beth Joslin has been a part-time employee with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2018. She holds an AS in Graphic Design. Beth was also a page designer with the Eagle Time Printing & Publishing.
Captain Timothy Ames has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2000 starting as a call member and was hired full-time in 2002. He was promoted to Captain in 2011. Captain Ames is currently assigned as Shift Officer of Group A. He is responsidble for station maintenance & supplies, hazmat and air monitoring equipment, ladder 1, forestry 1 and utility 3. Captain Ames holds an AS degree in Fire Science, and also is certified as an Advanced EMT, Fire Officer I & II, Fire Inspector I, Fire & Emergency Services Instructor I, Haz-Mat Technician and Child Passenger Safety Technician. Captain Ames also serves as a member of the Central New Hampshire Haz-Mat team.
Firefighter Luke Wakefield has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2013 and is currently assigned to Group A. He is in charge of radios, preplans and safety equipment. Firefighter Wakefield is a certified Paramedic and Firefighter II. He is certified in Technical Rescue and Wildfire.
Firefighter Gregory Stetson has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since October 2022 and is currently assigned to Group A. Firefighter Stetson holds an AS in Criminal Justice. He is in charge of recycling. Firefighter Stetson is a certified Firefighter II & III, Advanced EMT, Fire and Emergency Services Instructor I, Fire Officer I & II, Confined Space Rescue Technician, Ice Rescue Technician, Trench Rescue Technician and Rope Rescue Operations. Prior to being employed with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS, he served with Franklin Fire Department.
Firefighter Kyle Boynton has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2021 when he joined the call company and was hired full-time in 2023. He is currently assigned to Group A. Firefighter Boynton is a Certified Firefighter II & III, EMT, and Ice Rescue Technician.
Captain Derek Farrell has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2011. He was promoted to Captain in September 2022. Captain Farrell is currently assigned as shift officer of Group B. He is in charge of fire equipment, NHESR vehicle reporting, engine 1, tanker 1 and boat 1. Captain Farrell holds an AS in Fire Science and an AS in Criminal Justice. He is also a certified Advanced EMT, Firefighter III, Fire Officer I & II, Fire & Emergency Services Instructor I, Fire Inspector I, Confined Space Rescue Technicial and SwiftWater Rescue Technician.
Firefighter Stephen Smith has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2003 and is currently assigned to Group B. Firefighter Smith is responsible for dry hydrants and cisterns. Firefighter Smith holds a AS in Animal Husbandry and BS in Studio Arts. He is also a certified Advanced EMT, Emergency Services Instructor I, Fire Inspector I & II, Fire Officer I & II, Firefighter III, Swiftwater Rescue Technician, Wildland Firefighter and Trench Rescue. Prior to being employed with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS, Firefighter Smith served with Moultonborough Fire Department.
Firefighter Travis Gosine has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2009 when he joined the call company and was hired full-time in 2021. He is currently assigned to Group B. Firefighter Gosine is in charge of pagers, IAR, and the TNFD FF Association. He is a Certified Firefighter II & III, Advanced EMT, and Swiftwater Rescue Technician.
Firefighter Nicholas Baker has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2016 and is currently assigned to Group B. He is in charge of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus. Firefighter Baker holds a BS in Air Traffic Management. Firefighter Baker is certified as a Paramedic, Firefighter III, Fire & Emergency Services Instructor I, Fire Officer I, Airport Firefighter & Ice Rescue Technician.
Captain Matthew Gilman has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2009 as both a career firefighter and a call member. He was promoted to Captain in 2020. Captain Gilman is the Shift Officer of Group C and is responsible for EMS Quality Control, the Auto Pulse, Zoll monitors, Ambulance 1 and 2. Captain Gilman holds an AS in Fire Science and an AS in Emergency Paramedic Medicine. He is also certified as a Career Firefighter, Paramedic, Fire Officer I & II, Fire & Firefighter III, Emergency Services Instructor I, Fire Instructor I, Rope Rescue Technician, Fire Inspector I, Swiftwater Rescue Technician and Ice Rescue Technician.
Firefighter Daniel Leathers has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2011 and is currently assigned to Group C. He is in charge of fitness equipment maintenance and hose. Firefighter Leathers holds an AS in Fire Science. He is also certified as a Paramedic, Firefighter II & III, Fire Officer I and Fire & Emergency Services Instructor I, Fire Inspector I and IAFF Trained Peer Supporter.
Firefighter Ryan Pelow has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2021 and is currently assigned to Group C. He is in charge of small engine maintenance. Firefighter Pelow is a certified Advanced EMT, Firefighter II & III and Confined Space Technician.
Firefighter Brandon Flanagan has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2023. He is currently assigned to Group C. Firefighter Flanagan is a Certified Firefighter II & III, EMT, and Ice Rescue Technician.
Captain Jonathan Powell has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 1997. He began as an explorer, joined the call company in 2001 and was hired full-time in 2004. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 2016 and then to Captain in 2017. Captain Powell is the Shift Officer of Group D. He is the Vector Scheduling Administrator and is responsible for the ordering and maintenance of the department's rescue equipment, Engine 2 and Rescue 1. Captain Powell is a certified Fire Officer I & II, Instructor 1, Inspector 1, Firefighter II & III, Rope Rescue, Confined Space, and Swift Water Rescue technician. He is also an Advanced EMT.
Firefighter Zacharay Mellett has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2016 and is currently assigned to Group D. He is in charge of duty uniforms, water & ice rescue equipment. Firefighter Mellett is one of our student advisors. Firefighter Mellett holds an AS in Fire Science. Firefighter Mellett is certified as a Paramedic, Firefighter III, Emergency Services Instructor I, Fire Officer I, SwiftWater Technician, Ice Rescue Technician, Hazardous Material Decontamination and Fire & a BLS Instructor.
Firefighter Ryan O'Hara has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since 2020 and is currently assigned to Group D. He is in charge of ordering EMS supplies and equipment. Firefighter O'Hara is a Certified Firefighter II & III, Paramedic, Confined Space Technician, Trench Rescue Technician, Ice Rescue Technician and Swiftwater Rescue Technician.
Firefighter Aiden O'Brien has been with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS since September 2022 and is currently assigned to Group D. He is responsible for dry hydrants and cisterns. Firefighter O'Brien holds an AS in Fire Science. Firefighter O'Brien is a certified Advanced EMT, Firefighter II & amp; III, Instructor I, Extrication Technician, Fire Officer I & Prior to being employed with Tilton-Northfield Fire & EMS, he served with Franklin Fire Department.
